Cisco Systems and MailVision Showcases
NextGen IP Messaging for Service Providers Networks
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Sunnyvale, CA - January 21, 2002
Cisco Systems, the leading provider of end-to-end networking equipment, and MailVision,
a leading provider of next generation messaging platforms, are showcasing an operational,
commercially available NextGen IP Messaging solution. This integrated solution provides
"Next Generation" Service Providers with an IP Messaging Platform for business telephony
services over IP networks. MailVision provides both consumers and enterprises with a full
range of unified IP messaging solutions.

What is IP Messaging? IP Messaging platforms converges voice, fax, email and
wireless services to provide personal and business customers a full unified messaging
solution. MailVision's platform is scalable and modular. It supports state-of-the-art
protocols including the SIP protocol for connecting Soft-Switches, IP Gateways, IP Phones
and other VoIP platforms, and Voice XML for enhanced customized voice messaging.
Why Unified IP messaging? In a nutshell, Unified Messaging (UM) is simplified
communications. All your messages - voice, email, fax and electronic documents (files)
are funneled into a single "inbox." The contents of an inbox are accessible from any
web-enabled PC, wireline or wireless phone at any time, any place on the globe. The
messages are stored in email format. Regardless of how the message was sent, users are
able to read or listen to it using a web browser or telephone. For example, you can
listen to and manage your email or listen to your voice mail via your telephone.
Using a web browser and PC with a standard sound card and speakers you can also manage,
read, listen and reply to voice mail, email and faxes.
UM is cost efficient. It eliminates the need for redundant services for each form of
communication. UM provides greater ease of use, greater access to information and
significant productivity and timesavings over non-integrated or non-unified communications
solutions.
Why consider Unified IP Messaging? Unified Messaging has changed our perception
of the word "communication". It has translated all forms of messaging into a single
messaging entity for simplicity and timesaving. In the future terms such as "call me",
"fax me", "send me an email", will all become obsolete. Instead, you will use the
term - "message me". The quality of the INFORMATION in the message is the single most
important part of the message. The form of the message and the method of communicating
it have no significance. Unified messaging has simplified the process of sending,
collecting and managing messages and other electronic documents.
Deploying a Unified IP Messaging solution. The Cisco and MailVision IP Messaging
collaboration offers "NextGen" Telephony systems reliability, high performance, manageability
and seamless integration with their IP network and voice services. Furthermore, it results in
greatly reduced time to market. A deployment of the integrated Cisco/MailVision solution
typically takes three to six weeks. Furthermore, the integrated Cisco/MailVision solution
reduces the total cost of ownership, as well as capital expenditure and operations costs
by up to seventy percent.
The integrated Cisco/MailVision Unified IP Messaging solution incorporates Cisco's Access
Servers (AS5xxx) and ATA186 or IP-Tel 7960) in conjunction with the MailVision IP messaging Platform.
